  • Overview

    Summary/Objective

     

    Key member of the manufacturing finance team.  Prepares and maintains accounting records which include general accounting, inventory, costing, and budget data.  Analyzes, investigates and corrects accounting and inventory entries as needed.   Performs financial analysis and prepares trend and variance analysis reports.

    Must have an understanding of bakery production line capabilities and product limiting factors, bakery process order variances to identify changes for processing time, and thorough knowledge of various methodologies to calculate costing rates in order to update summary reports on costing information and prepare meaningful commentary for variances.   

    Assists with company budgeting and forecasting process.

     

    Ensures production work orders are complete and accurate to facilitate inventory accuracy. 

    Analyzes, investigates and corrects inventory issues as they arise. Working with the various departments to resolve, while providing feedback and direction, this role ensures follow ups are completed prior to adjustments in the system.

     

    Provides support for special projects within the department by completing special assignments.

    The position requires building strong, cross-functional partnerships internally and externally.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions

     

    Primary activities include but not limited to:

     

    1. Assist in preparation of budgets and forecasts
      1. Assist in budget preparation for certain line item expenses as directed
      2. Distribute budget building materials to department managers and provide guidance
      3. Help determine direct labor hours necessary to support budgeted volumes
      4. Assist in development of weekly forecasts
    2. Assist in cost development and Analysis of bakery SKU standards
      1. Assist in bakery timing studies for aide in determining standards
      2. Thorough understanding and maintaining data to determine accurate cost elements
      3. Creating standard costs in the system for Management review and release
      4. Maintains understanding of both Frozen Budget and Operational costing standards for analysis
      5. Update summary reports on costing information
    3. Production Work Order Oversight
      1. Monitors the timely and accurate reporting of work orders in NetSuite and when errors in reporting are found, then work with the production supervisors or BUM’s to correct the issues in a real-time / timely manor
      2. Reviews all work order closures to ensure final accurate reporting has been successful and accurate from an inventory perspective, therefore stock integrity and accuracy is maintained across Bulk Storage, Staging, Packaging, Warehouse and Finished Goods locations
      3. Analyze work order variances to ensure that production information is recorded correctly
      4. Communicate process order variance results to team with a view towards continuous improvement
      5. Ensure proper weekly and month end processing cut offs
      6. Track process order variances to identify potential changes and improvements
    4. Inventory Accuracy and Reporting
      1. Takes the lead to ensure inventories are properly maintained as per identified procedures
      2. Assists in monitoring and directing investigations of cycle count discrepancies. Works directly with the Cycle Counter and performs periodic inventory analysis to verifying system accuracy and resolve any discrepancies
      3. Provides feedback to cycle counter prior to completing adjustments in NetSuite and providing final reporting
      4. Monitors ingredient and packaging inventory transactions to ensure accurate recording of inventory to maintain accurate inventory records
      5. Supports the production supervisors to ensure their staging and packaging stock positions are correct prior to the start of each shift / production run by aiding investigations and directing follow-ups prior to variance postings
      6. Participates with any period end, quarter end and year end Physical Inventory-taking process as needed
      7. Works with QA to ensure the quality release/inspection process flows effectively to make sure inventory disposition is promptly addressed and does not interfere with planning ability
      8. Aides in monitoring and reporting on aged and expired inventories, driving for timely resolve and disposition
      9. Prepare inventory adjustment reports as directed
    5. Prepare and distribute internal financial and operational reports, with an emphasis on accurate and timely delivery of results while providing transparency of operating costs to management.
      1. Actual overhead expenditures to budget, looking at spend analysis and forecasting
      2. Prepare trend reports on items such as but not limited to
        1. Production waste, Material variances, Stocks, Expenses
      3. Weekly and Monthly results for Actual to Standard reporting and analysis
      4. Capacity reporting
      5. Detailed utility reports for analysis
    6. Prepare miscellaneous reports as directed.
    7. Assist in delivering training and communication to educate all functions on the drivers of manufacturing cost within the business
    8. Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

     

    Required

    • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in accounting or 4 years functional or food industry experience
    • 3-5 years relevant accounting experience in manufacturing/food environment
    • Understanding and experience in standard cost accounting
    • Computer literate with proficiency in inventory, spreadsheet and word applications
    • Good analytical, organizational and decision making skills
    • Self-starter, dependable, adaptable, and requires minimal supervision
    • Excellent communications and relationship management skills

     

    Preferred

    • Accounting experience in food industry
